The 2022 Public Art Census was conducted in Marion County, Indiana and designed by Rokh, Research & Design Studio.

It was supported by the Indy Arts Council and the City of Indianapolis Bicentennial Commission. Produced in partnership with Art Strategies LLC, with funding provided by the Herbert Simon Family Foundation and the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

Inspired by a series of conversations convened to explore themes of equity and spatial justice within the City of Indianapolis, this inventory and analysis, is the first of its kind.

Rokh’s research team spent 9 months scouting the more than 6500 linear miles across Marion County Indiana, reviewing documents and sources to investigate the spatial equity of public art. The data unconvered and translated multiple data sets to summarize the accessibility the general public has to public art across Marion County. This inventory is meant to be a launch pad for residents, activists, arts administrators, and policy makers alike to see public art as essential community infrastructure.
